Using the principles of integrated agriculture, the entire process takes place in a 90,000m2 greenhouse based in Renkovci, Prekmurje, located in the north-east of Slovenia.
The company itself takes pride in providing the best possible conditions for both growth and ripening of the plants; each of which are grown from genetically unmodified seeds purchased in Slovenia. A mixture of peat and coconut fibres are used for the soil while the tomatoes are pollinated by bumblebees, part of a permanent fauna within the greenhouse. If pests start to attack the plants or fruits their natural enemies are introduced to the setting to deal with them in a more environmentally conscious way.
The greenhouse is heated using naturally occurring warm water provided by a geothermal hole 1,483 meters deep. Additional heating is added when temperatures outside become too low. The ventilation, heating, and air-conditioning is operated by a state-of-the-art computer system. Rainwater is gathered in the surrounding lagoons, which is then used for watering the crops. Through this process, LUŠT natural tomatoes arrive fresh to the shelves for customers to enjoy their full taste.
