The Paper and Paper and Paper Converting Branch Association has instigated the procedure for joining the Confederation of European Paper Industries – CEPI and keeps in touch with the umbrella organisation of the European Corrugated Board Industry FEFCO (European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers).
BEST PRACTICE EXAMPLE
Slovenian paper and paper converting industry has joined forces and its resources in a private organisation for research activities and technological development - Pulp and Paper Institute headquartered in Ljubljana. The Institute engages in the research and development activity for paper and related industry. The Institute co-operates closely with its partners from the pulp, paper, paper converting, graphic and some other branches of the chemical industry and together with the Ministry of High Education, Science and Technology co-finances the basic, applied and research and development projects in the area of pulping and bleaching technology, manufacture of paper, cardboard and paperboard, surface treatment and environment protection. Numerous activities are carried out also in relation to the optimisation of processing and waste water treatment cycles, and at the same time the Institute is authorised also for waste water and solid waste monitoring. The Association engages in the activities on numerous international research and development projects launched with the aim to boost information exchange and collaboration between national and regional programmes and schemes for collective research across Europe (COST, CORNET, etc.)
The Association of Paper and Paper Converting Industry working hand-in-hand with the DITP (Pulp and Paper Engineers and Technicians Association) is organising the 13th International Days of the Slovenian Pulp and Paper Industry. The symposium part of the event boasts a 35-year-long tradition and attracts every year 200 to 250 participants from the paper and paper converting industry, both from Slovenia and from the neighbouring countries.
The getting together of the industry experts always takes place in November, the venue is Bled, and the first part of the event is traditionally dedicated to the topics that fall within the framework of general business, marketing activities, organisational, environmental and other issues of interest to a wider audience of people who “earn their bread and butter” in the paper industry and other interested participants (stakeholders). The second part examines more specific technical matters. This is one of few paper industry symposiums in this part of Europe and it is a high-profile event with hand-on approach thanks to its highly professional approach on the one hand and its role of a platform where the people connected with the paper industry get together, exchange views and socialise. Alongside the official part with lectures, there will a display of products and services provided by suppliers and other participants, as well as individuals and companies interested in the paper industry. In addition, it is a popular venue for informal gatherings and one-on-one meetings.
Every year the event has a key-note topic and this year on 25 and 26 November the theme will be the Energy Efficiency of the Paper Industry. The key-note topic is examined from several angles in order to benefit from expertise and experience of the speakers and other guests representing the industry in Slovenia and in other countries, regulators, authorities, media and different opinion groups.
