BEST PRACTICE EXAMPLE

Metal Industry Association collaborates with the Slovenian technology platform MANUFUTURE.

Manufuture is the supporting, innovative and advanced horizontal platform designed to serve as a high quality infrastructure for the needs of vertical integration of tooling and mechatronics, which operates within the framework of the EU Manufuture technology platform. The mission of MANUFUTURE is to propose a strategy based on research institutions and innovation, capable of speeding up the rate of industrial transformation in Europe, securing high added value employment and winning a major share of world manufacturing output in the future knowledge driven economy.

The principal objectives to be achieved through the activities carried out within the framework of the Manufuture technology platform are:

  • To reverse the trend of relocating toolmaking to “low cost countries” (China, Taiwan, Korea)
  • To revitalise toolmaking
  • To encourage innovation in toolmaking shops
  • To boost competitive abilities of toolmaking and mechatronics
  • To promote a positive public image of toolmaking / mechatronics as the environment-friendly activity

In order to achieve the above listed objectives set for the Manufuture technology platform, adequate tools for the realisation of these objectives must be available. This toolkit comprises:

  • Boosting the average value added in the EU to 90,000 EUR/ employee
  • Boosting the technological level of manufacturing
  • Shorter time needed for the development and manufacture of tools / mechatronic assembly (by 70% in comparison with 2004)
  • Cost reduction (lowering production costs by 60% in comparison with costs in 2004)
  • Boosting reputation of the occupation
  • Raising the level of the positive public image of the occupation
  • Boosting the education structure of employees
  • Boosting communication skills among member companies and among other technological platforms (TPs)
  • Promoting the positive image of toolmaking and mechatronics as important factors for technological progress in Slovenia and across the EU  Member States
