The Association of Informatics and Telecommunications is a relatively new organization, its beginnings going back to 1994, when companies engaged in these activities founded an interest group. Finally, the year 2000 saw the emergence of an independent association called ZRI - Information and Computer Science Association. In time the fields of telecommunications and informatics became inseparably intertwined, the telecommunication companies joined the Association in May 2001 and hence the new name Association of Informatics and Telecommunications. This is a new economic branch, characteristic of which is such an intensive development, that the development of the Standard Classification of Activities can not follow in its track. Therefore it is not surprising that the Association of Informatics and Telecommunications (ZIT) unites companies which according to Standard Classification of Activities belong to extremely diverse fields.

Association of Informatics and Telecommunications has more than 2000  companies and self-employed members. The scope of the sector is large; therefore Association is open to all members whose activities involve computer technology, informatics or telecommunications. The sectors can roughly be divided into production and selling of: hardware, software, office equipment, IT services and telecommunication services.

The Association is playing an active role to bring the county and its people in the information society. Trough the Association the IT&T sector is more recognized and has more influence on the legislation that defines IT market.
